Finding Glowing Volcanic Glass in a Forest Fire HELLSCAPE
Переглядів 2,3 тис.4 роки тому
Finding fluorescent hyalite opal in volcanic rocks. Huge forest fires devastated the region and exposed opal-bearing rocks, resulting in a post-apocalyptic hellscape invaded by wildflowers in only 6 months. The hyalite opal glows bright green in UV light thanks to trace amounts of uranyl/uranium.

Is this related to moldavite in anyway?
Plastic handled screwdrivers?
A roll of toilet paper in a zip lock bag can be priceless!!!
What there is Pele tears up in can.
Is it formed by volcanic activity and exposed by fire?
Yooo thanks for helping me find some, i just needed a few more lapis lazuli to enchant my sword!
Nice find😮
Peridot is also found in Norway. (evje)
Nice marine shotty
smart man love seeing prospectors that make use of safety squintz. Loved this video thanks for sharing.
In regards to your response before you removed the video on "Why is there SAPPHIRE in the Canadian Arctic?", honestly, I truly don't understand why you jumped the gun and assumed that I would intend to commit an illegal collect. I simply shared your enthusiasm and you go all mad and remove the video right after. What it looked like is, that you saw a French name, and you went all berserk at the thought that it might profit a French Canadian. Your credibility as a scientist is tainted by your obvious bias. I lived eight years in BC so I know I'm not imagining things about how you reacted. Baffin Island is extremely large and filled with prospecting opportunities. My upcoming prospecting trips to the region for summer 2023 and 2024, including to the Kimmirut area, will be perfectly legal and so will be my Prospecting license. I will conduct my search on only my registered units with the Nunavut Map Selection. Everything will be legal and respectful of the other claims and to the Nunavut bylaws. I also hope to find more deposits at different locations. Following the discovery of Rubies in Greenland, and way before I found out about the Kimmirut sapphire discovery of 2002, I was following clues on a personal theory that rubies and sapphires deposits in the Arctic Cordillera could be spread from Greenland, Quebec, Labrador to the Nunavut Islands in a wide mineral belt in the region. My theory was that the shift of continents separated the deposits like it did in the Pan-African belt from Sri Lanka, Myanmar into Madagascar, Mozambique and Tanzania. (For the most part.) When I recently found out about the Kimmirut deposits, it more or less confirmed my theory. Nothing more. Sharing my enthusiasm with you was obviously an error of judgement on your capability to openly interact on a scientific level. FYI, I don't claim to be a scientist myself. My area of expertise is not in this field right now. I'm currently learning to become a gem cutter and soon to be a Geology Bachelor student. But this does not make how you reacted any more acceptable.
I just pointed out that the sites are on active claims thus prospecting there is not permitted, since it seemed you may have had the intention to visit the sites on the map. I don't believe the video indicated the current claim status so I wanted it to be clear that collecting is not currently allowed there and there's also an RCMP detachment nearby, so I don't want my video to lead to someone unknowingly breaking the law. I need to update the video with new information. Je suis Canadien français donc tu devras trouver une autre raison ;) Bonne chance avec la prospection. By the way, there is ruby potential in Labrador. There are new studies in progress now.
@@GeologyofGemsMinerals Okay, I may have jumped the gun myself. Thank you for the explanation. I appreciate the tip about the rubies in Labrador. Je ne cherchais pas à nous victimiser car j'y avais vu un vieux film qui revenait tourner en boucle pour l'avoir vécu souvent. Mais je suis heureux que ce n'était pas le cas. Your videos are well rounded and very educating. I will continue watching your videos.
"Pretty Respectable"
My buddy Brayden from True North Adventures told me to check ya out. Great channel!!
nice kit! i would have also added a UV light depending on what your looking for and also a water spray bottle to bring out more features and formations on rocks!
diamond pickax
Why would you have needed to get a second pick, do they wear down over time?
thank you so much this helped a lot
Are you guys still rock hounding in BC
One question for you: Did you have bear spray on your person
Man it so cool.
I wanted to thank you for making this video blessings to you. Also really wierd the only comment on here was talking about a face in the crystal. If you have time I'd appreciate if you could give this a looksy and tell me your opinion if u think it's feldspar or not ✌️ blessings to this channel so be it...ua-cam.com/video/C2nZ7_qMFvo/v-deo.html
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Just found your channel...looks like we're in for a good time! 👍
Awesome video. Well laid out(literally), full of practical advice that obviously based on real work experience. It was also nice of you to include the safety tips.
You don't need to replace a chisel with a mushroomed end, just dress it on a bench grinder.
Thank you so much for this!!! I love it, my name is Amber and for my Bday I want to go, could I message you with some access questions? I have some limitations in access🙏❤️❤️
where is the location
Definitely should have kept going with this channel it could have blown up
Thanks, sadly I'm just too busy with work :-)
@@GeologyofGemsMinerals I like your content, do you post anywhere else?
do u need music
Bagus sekali
So the difficulty in have is finding a weapon balanced comfortable back pack to carry all that stuff and act like a bucket.
Was it the udig Opal claim in Vernon that you visited?
Good suggestions and explanations. You are young. Kneepads in my gear thank you. Lol. Nice job
Does that mean the mineral would get hot (or warm-ish)if you left it under a UV light for several hours? I'm sure there is an equalibrium point for the temperature... just curious if you can feel the heat?
No, it doesn't get hot. The energy gain is in electron orbital position change and the loss is as visible light.
Where exactly is this in bc ? I live in BC , surrey and would love to take my kids here 😊🤩thx so much for the videos
botryoidal AF 👌
@5:40 MOSQUITO!!

@@GeologyofGemsMinerals do you think it might change in the futur? There is an active iron ore mine right now and its not going well for their new project expansion..
@@GeologyofGemsMinerals there is always the north of Quebec with similar goelogy but it is more rich in gold deposit.
Yeah other parts of Baffin can be visited. Lots of permits.
Where those claims? I would love to join one day of its possible! 😀
